What is XPLR GUIDE?
A free discovery and planning app built by the XPLR team. It helps you find places worth your time, save the ones that catch your attention, and turn them into real days out: curated lists, ready-to-follow itineraries, and our own videos of the places, in one app. Tennessee is our home base and main focus, with selected places in Kentucky, Alabama, and beyond.
When and where does it launch?
Once Apple and Google approve the apps, XPLR GUIDE will be available on iPhone and Android. Coverage is Tennessee-first, with selected places in Kentucky, Alabama, and other regions. This is a curated guide, not exhaustive listings across all 50 states. Join the launch list for download links when they're available.
Is XPLR GUIDE free?
Yes, and the important part stays free forever: every place in the guide. No place is ever hidden behind a paywall, and no business can pay to appear, disappear, or be recommended. Paid features may come later for extra depth, like premium itineraries, premium lists, and perks. If they do, they'll be optional extras on top of a guide whose places and verdicts remain free for everyone, and we'll say so plainly before anything changes.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Using the app requires a free account. Your account is how your saved places, lists, itineraries, and private notes stay yours and stay connected across your devices. Creating one takes under a minute, and it never costs anything.
How are places chosen for the guide?
A person chooses them. The XPLR team researches, visits, and assesses every place in person, using a 25-question assessment: the quality of what's there, how well it's cared for, how you're treated, cleanliness and atmosphere, and practical things like accessibility and parking. The final test is simple: would we confidently recommend this place to our audience? Places that don't clear the bar don't get in, and inclusion is never sold.
What does XPLR GUIDE Approved mean?
It means the place is in the guide. Every place in XPLR GUIDE passed the same in-person assessment, so being listed and being Approved are the same thing. The Approved section in the app is a spotlight: approved places we especially want you to see. It isn't a higher tier, and there is no way to buy your way into either one.
Read The Standard →What happens if a place goes downhill?
Approval can be lost. If we receive credible complaints about a place (specific, checkable reports about the experience), a Navigator goes back for a fresh in-person recheck, paid for by us. A place that fails is told why and given a window to fix the problem, then rechecked by a different Navigator. Fail again, and it comes out of the guide.
Can a business pay to be in a list or itinerary?
No. Payment does not buy inclusion in the guide, editorial placement in curated lists or itineraries, rankings, search position, or Approved status. Clearly labeled sponsored placements exist in designated sponsored spots in the app, including labeled sponsor moments inside itinerary videos and galleries, and they are always marked 'Sponsored.' They are never presented as rankings or recommendations. Businesses can pay for an evaluation visit. That pays for our time and travel, never for the outcome.
Does paying for an evaluation guarantee a business gets in?
No. The fee buys the visit: a Navigator comes in person and runs the full assessment. If the place clears the standard, it's in. If it doesn't, it isn't, and the fee isn't refunded, because the work was done. That's what makes being in the guide worth something to the businesses that are in it.
I'm a business. How do I get considered?
Start on the For Businesses page. Suggesting a place or requesting an evaluation starts a conversation. It doesn't guarantee a listing, coverage, or approval. Every place goes through the same human process.
For Businesses →Can I add a place, write a review, or post photos?
No, and that's deliberate. Everything in the guide is XPLR content, researched, vetted, and filmed by our team, and users never add places or content to it. You can suggest a place for us to visit (recs@xplrguide.com), save places, and keep private notes on them. In a later phase you'll be able to build your own lists and itineraries by arranging places that are already in the guide, and share those collections with friends. The places in them will still be places we vetted.
Can I build my own list or itinerary and share it?
Not yet. Today you can follow and save the lists and itineraries we publish, and save places to your account. Collection tools are planned for a later phase: you'll arrange places already in the guide into your own lists and days, and share them with friends. Anything you build is your arrangement of our vetted places, never new content added to the guide.
Does XPLR GUIDE sell my data?
No. We never sell personal information: not your name, email, phone number, account details, or your individual saves, visits, or history. What partners and destinations can receive is aggregated insight with every trace of identity stripped out: counts and patterns, like how many people used an itinerary or how busy an area is, reported in groups too large for anyone to pick out a person. Counts and patterns, never people. Our Privacy Policy has the full detail.
What is XPLR SERIES, and how does it connect?
XPLR SERIES is our long-form show: a guest spends a real day exploring a real place, filmed as it happens. Every SERIES day becomes an itinerary inside XPLR GUIDE, stop by stop, so a day you watch is a day you can take. Watch it. Then go do it.
Is XPLR GUIDE the same as XPLR.NASH?
Connected, not the same. XPLR.NASH is the media and storytelling brand, where the daily discovery happens. XPLR SERIES is the long-form show. XPLR GUIDE is the app built from years of that exploration, where the places from the videos become lists and days you can take.
How do notifications work?
They're opt-in, always. We will never turn them on for you, and you can turn them off any time in your device settings. No dark patterns, no guilt trips, no streaks to protect.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, from your account settings, or any time via the Account Deletion page on this site: email support@xplrguide.com from the address on your account and we'll walk you through it. Deleting your account removes your saved places, lists, itineraries, and private notes.
